For panels, it is best to start with the largest pieces and check that they are all aligned with the direction of stretch. Save a scrap for a seam and hem test, especially if several resilient layers will meet in one place. On a small piece, test a regular seam, a hem, and an area with three layers. After stretching it several times, it is easy to assess whether the edge still lies evenly and whether the seam returns to shape with the fabric.
