This burgundy French terry is dense and compact, with medium thickness. It has a soft, delicate, resilient hand. The smooth surface remains matte and opaque. The knit falls fluidly, drapes well, and holds its shape while remaining stable.

The softness of cotton French terry

Cotton makes up 97% of the blend and spandex 3%; the weight is 280 GSM. The fabric feels pleasant against the skin. The sweatshirt knit's looped reverse differs in texture from the smooth side, which can be used in an exposed turnback. A sample of this detail shows both surfaces' appearance. After folding, also assess the seam allowance thickness and how the finished join feels on the inside.

Stretchy joins and soft fall

The sweatshirt knit stretches well and recovers its original shape. Choose a pattern after assessing the swatch's actual stretch, allowing for freedom of movement. The fluid drape can be seen on a larger piece hanging freely and arranged in a fold. The fabric remains stable. During test sewing, also check how the trim and stitch stretch, and compare the edge's appearance before stretching and after release.

Burgundy paired with a light texture

Cream, gray, and light beige can accompany the burgundy surface. For a trim in the same shade, compare both color and texture. Ribbing will look different from a smooth matte surface. The fabric is suitable year-round for blouses, pants, bathrobes, hats, and children's clothing. For fitted finishes, assess the completed join's ease. The knit's soft hand should also be considered when arranging seam allowances where they touch the skin.

Preparing pattern pieces for sewing
