This burgundy French terry has a very substantial hand and a soft, smooth surface. Its right side is matte, and the underside is looped. The fabric is compact and thick. It retains its shape, and lifting a larger piece reveals a gentle drape and noticeable weight.

Softness and knit construction

The composition is entirely cotton. The French terry weighs 580 GSM. The fabric is gentle on the skin and fully opaque. The thickness of a single layer is clearly noticeable, and folding it increases the bulk of the entire edge. Check this on a sample hem crossing a seam. This test will help you choose the finish width and assess how it feels on the inside.

Burgundy on the smooth side and loops

Burgundy can be paired with cream, charcoal, or navy. When choosing trim in a similar tone, compare samples in natural light. The smooth, matte French terry will look different from rib knit trim. The wrong side of the French terry has characteristic loops. If they will be exposed in a turnback, examine them alongside the right side in the planned proportions.

Fabric behavior, cutting, and sewing preparation

The knit is nonstretch. Ease for dressing and movement must be included in the pattern by checking circumference measurements and openings. The fabric's thickness also matters when several layers overlap. The French terry holds its shape well and drapes softly. It is intended for year-round use, including sweatshirts, pants, children's clothing, and bathrobes. With such a substantial fabric, plan finishes before cutting. A join sample will reveal the edge's bulk and its feel against the skin. Reproduce the area with the most layers to assess how the edge actually lies on both sides. Also consider how the fabric behaves during wear when cutting and preparing finishes. At a width of 160 cm, arrange the pattern pieces on freely laid-out knit, including seam and hem allowances. Support any fabric extending beyond the work surface to maintain its natural dimensions. With a substantial fabric, prepare a sample of an area where several layers meet. It will allow you to assess edge thickness, stitch selection, and the join's movement. The smooth appearance of the outer side can be used in solid-color designs. For finishes, choose the hem width after examining a test fold, especially when a thicker edge will touch the skin or cross several seams.

Care and durability

The French terry has been given a silicone finish. It resists frequent washing and retains its color and shape afterward. Its shrinkage is low, and it has little tendency to wrinkle. Resistance to pilling, abrasion, stretching out, and distortion is useful during regular use.
