This steel blue French terry is smooth and matte, reveals a looped underside when turned over, and has a soft, substantial hand. A larger piece drapes gently and retains its shape. Steel blue looks good across simple areas where the fabric itself remains visible.

Softness and knit construction

The French terry construction has a characteristic looped underside. The smooth right side and textured wrong side make the two surfaces easy to distinguish during cutting. If you plan a turnback, check how the exposed loops look alongside the matte outer surface. The fabric is stable and nonstretch. Choose a pattern with enough ease for comfortable use, also accounting for openings and areas used when putting the garment on. The knit itself holds the shape, while comfortable fit must be planned into the cut.

Steel blue in understated combinations

The shade can be paired with navy, white, and light gray. A beige accent will introduce a warmer tone. When choosing ribbing, compare the color and texture of actual samples. The smooth, matte French terry will look different from ribbing, so examine their proportions across a wider piece. Measure the fabric in its natural, relaxed state. Support any fabric extending beyond the table so its weight does not alter the knit's position. Make the sewing test with the intended number of layers and examine it from the soft underside as well.

Care and durability

A silicone finish has been applied. The French terry retains its color and shape well after washing, has low shrinkage, and has a low tendency to wrinkle. It also resists frequent washing, abrasion, and pilling. Resistance to stretching out and distortion helps maintain its shape during regular use. The smooth appearance of the outer surface also remains important in solid-color, light-colored designs.
